Weekly report 30 August - 05 September 2010

The Italian MOFA requested UNHRD Brindisi to organize a flight to support the Pakistan emergency operation. On board of a AN124 cargo composed of water supplies, medical supplies, tents, for a total weight of 44.9 mt. The flight left Brindisi 3 September.  Several modules shipped to Dubai by sea, for a total weight of 13.36 mt. In response to Pakistan emergency,  UNHRD Dubai has sent 10 mt HEB transported on commercially donated flight from Rus Aviation to Karachi. Red Crescent advised the possibility to move 115 mt of HEB on its flights on 5 September. Also 98 mt of relief items from Irish Aid stock has been shipped thru UNHAS while 18 mt of USAID cargo, WHO water sanitation equipment were transported by PIA at free of charge. Preparation for sea freight shipment to WFP Pakistan for prefabricated buildings, softwalled prefabricated warehouses, ablutions units,  generators and some ICT items is ongoing. A quotation to provide 6,000 plastic pallets, value of US$ 222,000, has been asked by WFP Pakistan. A sea freight shipment to WFP Yemen, 3×20″ containers loaded of softwalled prefabricated warehouses, generators and water bladders, fire extinguishers has left HRD Dubai premises on on 30 August. Transferring of the stock items between Subang and DSP warehouse are ongoing to maximise the space usage of UNHRD Subang. Sr. Logistics Officer from Mercy Malaysia visited Subang on 2 September. Mercy requested to store a part of its stocks in UNHRD Subang. A container sent by Swiss Red Cross (550 units x emergency family kits) arrived at Port Klan on 2 September. Duty exemption process is being processed.

Weekly report 23-29 August 2010

UNICEF, WFP Country Office in Niger and UNHCR have requested to ship from UNHRD Accra several accommodation and ablution units, soft walled prefabricated warehouses, and some relief items. WFP Country Office in Chad has confirmed request for a 3-metric tons forklift.
UNHRD Brindisi has been requested by the  Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to prepare a cargo to be loaded on board of a C17 (to be confirmed), destined to Pakistan. A meeting among the WFP Regional Director, UNHRD Subang manager and the Malaysia Deputy Minister of Defence was held in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday 25th on the UNHRD set-up.
UNHRD Dubai is preparing other dispatches for Pakistani. Attempts are still going on, via RASO, for a commercial airline to donate free airlift from Dubai to Karachi for balance 130metric tons of high energy biscuits. Just confirmed 10metric tons can be moved by end of week. Attempts are on going as well with Pakistan Air for free airlift, of partial high energy biscuits cargo. In response to Pakistan Emergency, several shipments processed during this week: Qatar Charity shipment left on 20.8.2010 in two lots, 40metric tons to Lahore (donation by Qatar airlines), and 28metric tons to Islamabad. WHO (GAR and HAC) shipment of water sanitation items (11.5metric tons) on 26.8.2010. CRS tarpaulins for 5.5metric tons on 22.8.2010. Other operations are on going as requested by NCA (airlift of 60 metric tons - departure from UNHRD depot by end of the week). A further shipment has been requested by UNDP (ballistic vests and helmets to Kyrgyzstan) to HRD Dubai.
Quadbikes and first aid kits were sent from UNHRD Panama for the Haiti Emergency. Preparation of 386 meals ready to eat to Cuba is ongoing.

Weekly report 17-22 August 2010

HRD Accra

  • Preparation of cargoes for 2 shipments, on behalf of UNICEF and Niger CO.

HRD Subang:

  • Mr. Belkacem Benzaza, Hub Manager, arrived at Subang on 18 August.
  • A five-day WMS training (from 16 to 20 August) has been successfully conducted at the HRD Subang. Logistics staff learned the inbound and out bound processes and transactions such as Goods Movement, Dummy PO, Transfer order, Bin Status Report etc.
  • ICT equipment is being received. ICT staff from Bangkok will come to Subang for setting up the equipment and system in the week of 23 August.

HRD Dubai:

  • HRD Dubai Hub Manger was interviewed by a national newspaper on UNHRD response for Pakistan emergency.
  • HRD Dubai organized 5 shipments on behalf of FITTEST to Djibouti, Chad, Cameroon, Zimbabwe and Philippines.
